iTheatre Inc. presents . . .

Interactive Theatre Comes to Niagara-on-the-Lake

"You're not just the audience, you're in the show!"

Picturesque Niagara-on-the-Lake is the backdrop for a new adventure in interactive theatre. "Mystery on the Lake", a production of iTheatre Inc., is an innovative concept in entertainment that combines the history and culture of the old town, with the entertainment of live theatre and the fun of teamwork in solving historical puzzles.

Fitting in with the theatre theme and the town's historic richness, the "Mystery on the Lake" experience is part theatre, part scavenger hunt, part historical education, and part walking tour. all presented in an environment of mystery and intrigue as the audience works together in groups of 10 to 12 as they make their way through the town searching for clues and interacting with unusual characters played by actors. Discovering who is part of the show, and who isn't is all part of the experience.

Recognizing that visitors to Niagara-on-the-Lake were looking for more theatre themed activities, iTheatre developers researched the fascinating history of Niagara-on-the-Lake and worked with many of the town's existing establishments, museums and historical sites to determine what type of experience could provide the entertainment value the tourism market was seeking. Parks Canada, the Niagara Historical Society, and the Bed and Breakfast Association are just a few of the groups iTheatre approached to determine the format and content of their new attraction.

The script writers then created a storyline for this performance that utilizes actual historic and cultural facts and combines the fun and drama of live theatre and improv through interaction with a variety of colourful characters as they guide you through the town on a quest to solve "The Secret of Butlersburg."

Participants are drawn into the plot as a group and are dispatched to discover new and interesting sites within the village, and as they are having fun and solving historical puzzles along the way they gain insight into Niagara's fascinating history. The resonant historical atmosphere of Niagara-on-the-Lake and the predominant theatre presence of the Shaw Festival provides a unique stage that makes for a truly memorable interactive excursion through the old town.

Audience members walk about 3 km (1.9 miles) during the show with frequent stops. No one walking segment is longer than 10 minutes allowing all ages to participate. The ticket price also includes admission to two of the town`s premiere historic attractions; Parks Canada Fort George; and the Niagara Historical Museum (a $20 value).

Mystery on the Lake operates May-October. Website: www.MOTL.ca
